DISPARITY BETWEEN CRITICS AND AUDIENCE REVIEWS

In this day and age, most moviegoers will check the review score of a movie from either imdb.com or rottentaomattoes.com prior to buying the tickets for the movie that they intend to watch. The only problem is most of the early review scores are done by critics from media sources who had watched the early premiere or private screening before the cinema releases. In most cases, the early critic review scores which are low will hamper the sales of tickets and possibly crippled the movie no matter how good they are. They are also rumours that these critic reviewers were given ‘special treatment’ especially in a typical big production movie in order to secure a good review during the private screening.

We must also be aware that a critic is also an individual with his/her own taste in terms of movie genres that they enjoy. He/She may enjoy action adventure and fantasy movies but not horror or comedy which eventually contributed to a bad review score for a certain genre which are not within their tastes.  It is unsettling to see critics are killing most of the new and upcoming filmmakers with extremely low review score. In our opinion, these critics should be bar and should not even be given a chance to publish their movie reviews until the actual release date of a new movie.

What will happen if the audience score is high while the critics scores are way down the drains? A perfect example of this is the recently released Warcraft movie by Duncan Jones. Does this means the critics are biased or they are trying to be utterly smart by judging all movies based on games are bad? Nevertheless, the important thing is the audience love it and not some critics who are trying to be critical and have no sense of what they really doing. We are not saying all movie critics are idiots but they are just redundant and should be excluded from giving a review score for a movie. We strongly believe that critics are like a small pinch of salt compare to the whole ocean of audience.

Why is there so much difference?

Please do let us know in the comments below. Should we allow critics to review what movies we want to watch in the cinemas prior to its release? Should critics be bar and restricted only in printed media?
